It’s amazing how many times in the past weeks I’ve stopped in awe to say “Wow, she can do that?” It’s impossible to keep track of every little thing, I just have to hope someone has an iPhone handy to catch Maddie on camera. Gone are the days of tracking feedings and diapers, lists of foods as she tries new ingredients and barely-there milestones (was that gas? was that a smile?). Now it’s a constant game of catch-up!
After learning to sit at 5.5 months, the rest is a blur. She spent a couple of weeks scooting, which quickly turned to a lazy crawl-scoot hybrid, then started to pull herself to standing. From there learned how to kneel, then pushing up to sit. And now, finally, we have a full-on crawl. Her newest trick is to shift her weight between her feet and hands to turn and grab things while she stands. I guess I was expecting a linear progression from the floor to standing but babies just have a mind of their own!
Even more amazing are the social and emotional milestones. Even without a vocabulary it’s funny to see how Maddie’s expressions and grunts can communicate so much. The look of pride after pulling up on a particularly challenging object. The look of desperation when she wants to be carried. A teasing grunt while pressing her lips closed as she rejects her veggies. I can already see what a chatterbox this little one will be once she does learn words!
